Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the group reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
